Dear Rotarian friends,
I am very honoured by your trust and sympathy having been elected President of the Rotary Club Bratislava Danube for the upcoming year.
Reach within to embrace humanity – is the slogan of Kalyan Banerjee, the President of Rotary.
This should also be our slogan for the future to come.
Let us reflect on the true spirit of Rotary.
What is Rotary?
What does it mean to me?
What are the plans for our club for the next year?
Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide.
Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.
Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.
For me, Rotary stands for my personal belief: Serve over self. Working in the service industry makes it easy for me to share the idea of helping and serving others. To share my personal happiness and luck with others, who are not as fortunate. To stretch out a helping hand to people who are in need, and rely at the same time to my fellow Rotarians who will be there for us, if we need them.
In this respect, I stress that along with other innovations, fundraising together with increased marketing and visibility of our Rotary Club will take a large part of my presidency.
The Happy Euro – a small contribution, but it will amount to a beautiful income to our club account, a little more discipline – wearing any sign of Rotary during our meeting – at least a pin. If not, you are welcome to purchase one at our secretary for 5 EUR – and you will ask yourself - how did I ever end up with four pins?
Punctuality – if we run late, a contribution of a EURO for coming after the bell, 5 EUR for a ringing mobile phone during our meetings and presentations, are only few of many opportunities.
Over aging was an issue during our PETS training – therefore we will closely cooperate with Rotarakt. Young people driven by enthusiasm should be taken over into our club life. Let us share their enthusiasm and help them to grow.
To find new members will make Rotary even stronger! Don´t be shy – invite people who you think that they might contribute to the idea of Rotary. The members’ choice committee is here to help.
Youth exchange – one of the strongest points for our club – let´s further work on it. With the contacts we gained, we can send many of young talented children abroad to learn and gain experience to implement it also into the future of Slovakia!
Show flag – Rotary – these are the people who help! Let’s have stickers for our cars and bikes, let´s get this Rotary sign up in front of our hotel, to identify the place and to make it visible to other Rotarians that we meet every Monday evening! I will sponsor our flags to exchange with other clubs.
We do have a partner club – RC Coburg – let us intensify cooperation and exchange news and experiences with them. Contact other Rotary Clubs in Slovakia and cross borders! Maybe we can find projects that are worth twinning and receiving more funding for humanitarian aid also in our own projects – hippotherapy, C4C.
Already today I thank my team, Barbara, Michaela, Peter, Milos and Roman, for their efforts and help. I also thank you all for your personal input and contribution to make the upcoming year another step into a bright future of Rotary Bratislava Danube!
Yours in Rotary
Klaus Pilz
